I have seen my blog change 8 places in a day and that's not the page rank changing i suppose myself i will learn more these net few mouths. A directory so powerful many believe Google actually takes into account if your site is on there and boosts your rank accordingly. One thing is for sure however, it is always better to be in directories than not. It can't hurt you. Besides that I would believe most go for quantity anyway as it is relatively easy/semi-easy to get into other directories other than DMOZ and the likes.
